An ocean full of opportunities
„An ocean full of opportunities“ is a research project about sustainable solutions for the textile and fashion industry. In this context different types of algae based products are used to design and create new materials. Agar Agar, an algae based gelatin substitute, is used for many different experiments and it is the main source for a new kind of bioplastic. The complete biodegradable material can be created in many different shades, looks and structures. It is dyed with natural dye, mainly with algae based colours, such as astaxanthin and phycocyanin.
Carolyn Raff studied Textile Design at the State Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Stuttgart and at the KADK Copenhagen. The main focus of her work, within the field of material research, is sustainability. It is realized with an interdisciplinary approach and a passion for experimental research.
